Locally rooted. Globally competent.
Place-Based Education (PBE) is an educational approach that connects learning with local communities, enhancing student engagement and academic outcomes. It emphasizes hands-on, real-world experiences, allowing students to engage with the culture, ecology, and economy of their surroundings. PBE promotes authentic, meaningful learning by integrating various disciplines and adopting a project-based approach that caters to real-world challenges.
Learning occurs both inside and outside traditional classrooms, focusing on local themes and systems. Teachers act as facilitators, encouraging learner agency and allowing students to feel in control of their education. Strong partnerships with community organizations and businesses support this approach, fostering a deep connection to the local environment.
